I Know I’m Late

May 22, 2019

Hi, Sorry I have’nt gotten back to all of you since November. Although I am late I’d like to thank everyone for coming out to our 40th anversary  show.

It takes a while for me to get back to full heath after such a party. Hey there south side girls I miss you. Thank you so much for bringing the cream puffs. You guys are turning into some bakers.

I also want to thank the extra performers in the show. First there is Henry Criz. I’ve known Ellen Criz and Henry Criz  most of my life, since I was 14. They have been very instrumental in helping me grow up.

When I was about 16 Henry was 1st. violin for a Aretha Franklyn concert. Ellen and Henry took me with them. I hung out back stage and took in every thing. In my mind I was already working on being a performer. You can’t  imagine how this help me believe I could make my dream come true. I was honored when he agreed to play with us.

My next break for this show was Erica. She has a voice that is as big as all of out doors. At the first rehursel the band couldn’t believe what came out of her. I couldn’t believe I would have another voice like that to play with us. It has been fun and exciteing to have these talented people on stage with the band., Erica Rica Jean Korak. There is a mouth full. You can see her at a lot of the blues clubs in Chicago. It is a treat if you can make it. Will be back soon.

We’re Back

October 12, 2016

When you’ve been together as long as the band has, you get to know each other well. You love each one of your guys, and respect what they can do with the music and with their lives. I call the Band ” My Guys”. We have nick names for each other, and ways that we enter act that even the wives don’t understand.

Being that close we worry about each other and pray that we will all be in good heath. But this year some of us have had a little bit of heath problems. Most people know that I have MS but I have been in good heath. Dick had a heart attack, but he looks great now. There are the other problem with heath with other members of our group, wife’s, friends. But, even that is getting better. I got to tell you ” Getting Old is a Bitch”, but we are riding high with the youth in music.

But I have always wanted to be an old black blues lady. Now I am. But I refuse to act old. I love to dance to the music. I love drinking with the fans. I want to be more active with the guys on stage. Dickie V comes out more on stage and it is great. His’ searing gutiar is out of site.

My man Doug has gotten a little grayer around the hair line, but you coudn’t tell it by the way he plays sax. His sax adds to the Solo sections and rythum lines like they are married. And lets not forget Scott Grube. The man’s finger move like a swift wind blowing full clear tones.

Holding all this together is our rythum section. Mark Duran, beating, smacking, tapping and slamming the drums in rythum with the bass. Now that brings me to last but not lest Russel. He has been with this band for more that 20 years. He was in the sound, making sure you and the band got the sound you wanted. He  worked with the gutiars, making sure the tuning and sound was just right with it. Now he is the bass player. He buts the same enthusiasum in his playing as he has in his past jobs with the band. His late wife was in our back round vocals. This has made us a famly band.

We have partied our way through almost 4 decades of fun. We just played the Ill. Blues Festival in the wonderful city of Peoria. We loved being on main stage. Now we are about to do it again at Fiztgrealds. Come on out and be a part of it. Come dance sing the songs you all know, plus new songs we have just writen. It is time to party again with the Vanessa Davis Band!

They told us to go home

September 9, 2015

37 years ago Living Blues sent a letter to us telling us to go home. They said there was already to many blues bands in Chicago. And they said there was in particularly to many white blues musicians. I believed that was not only disheartening to hard-working musicians, but racist . I am glad we prove them wrong. My guys are some of the best musician in Chicago, thank you. I dare you to come back 37 years later and see.

I Know You

August 7, 2015

Scan0011I went to see mom at St. Joseph’s Village. We where having a little lunch and the woman next to mom was looking at me. She says, I know you! “I saw you at the Frist National Bank Plaza. You where singing that song ONE  KISS “.  She got up to hug me. We laughed and had a great time. We still get in touch. In my early voice, Hell Yah to all the fan’s OLD, and New!

June 2, 2015

Well the summer is here, although you can’t tell it by the weather here in Chicago.

We have been in rehearsal for a few months, learned a few new songs and now we are ready to go.

I got an Email from a fan in Louisville, Kentucky. She wanted to know if the band was still playing.” What about Vanessa,” She asked. “Is she still alive”. Well yes , I am still alive. The fact is the first show we are going to play is in Jeffersonville, Indiana. This is right across the river from Louisville, Kentucky. If you take the foot bridge across the river you will be right there for the show.

We play the River Stage: Saturday June 13th 9:00 to 10:30. walk on over.

Being a 100lb, lighter and feeling 100% in better heath, (new meds do wonders. Rebif yea!), I know we can do one hell of a show.  I will be the one in Converse All Stars, oh yea singing and such.

This summer at home we hope to be at Fitzgerald’s in Berwyn, Ill. And other places around Chicago to be named later. I hear some of my friends from Amsterdam will be here for a few shows. Come on guys love to see you. Going over there soon but can’t wait to see you. So come over and party with me here before the summer is over.
I’d like to thank everyone who’s going with us to party in Kentucky and  Indiana. 5 hours is nothing to sneeze at. We will make it worth your while.

But if you can’t make the out of town party, we will be around to party here. V_Band-77

What about next year!

April 9, 2015

This year we are hoping to work out some new things. There are songs we have that have never been pressed. This year we hope to get these songs out. Being this old we have learned a few things about our music. I hope that we can be here for you , to entertain you and bring you joy in our music.

In the future we will give you our date for this year. Also some pictures of the time we had together last year. Here we come again, 2015 watch out.

Back to where we started.

September 8, 2014

It was a wonderful time in Chillicothe. It was a very good time. I saw people that haven’t seen our show for 20 years and more. Some one had a pictures of me when I was 26 years old. She had been a fan for all these years.
What can I say to some one who has been so loyal to the band. I’d love to get to know her and tell her how much it meant to me to have a fan like her. I feel like my life is coming back in a circle. It had me thinking of all the places we’ve been.
We started here in Peoria which is not far from Chillicothe. It was about 36 years ago we started in a Pizza Place in town. We went from there to a large hall farther from the city. It had a large over all room with different stairs to the balconies.
Before we started the show we always had BBQ from a famous rib house. I don’t remember the name. But they had great ribs. The next place was down town. It was a strip joint that they were hoping to make into music club. It had a run way that went into the audience, that was fun. Next to that was a rock club. It was a loud jumping thing that was a party-all night place that sometime spilled into the street. We couldn’t wait to play there. There was nothing like chugging beer and raising hell with the crowd. I have to say most of my time playing at these places and parting like hell was some of the best times of my life.
Someone asked me what was the best place I played. Well there was some places that was where better than others, but most where down home jumping rock house’s. They let us express ourselves in the best way. But we really had fun at Vanessa Fest. We did a few of those. Ravina, The Il. County Fair ground. One time my friends and I drove or motor cycles to the gig from Chicago.
The year Mars was closeist to the earth, I brought my telescope to Vanessa Fest. We where out in the field different people pearing through the eye piece, watching a different world. Then we got on stage and played late in the night under the stars. Yes I had very good times there. I hope to go back. Until then I love you guys. You make me feel at home. I also love that you bring the kids. Nothing like bringing in new fan.
Also thank you my friends who came with me. love you guys too. Vanessa

July 30, 2014

It’s been a while since we’ve been down state. We use to have a Vanessafest every summer. I just found a few of the pictures we had from then. We had very good times in, Bloomington, Peoria, Springfield, Quincy, before moving onto other states.
We still meet people from those times. In the bar I frequent, people come in from all areas and they still remember us. We laugh and have a drink or two and talk about those days and our youth. Now I’m glad to say we will go back to those places. August the 2nd we play Chillicothe, Il At Three Sister’s Park. They are having other bands and Fish fry. I don’t know about you, but I love a fish fry. I am also hoping that some of you will like a fish fry too.
Out in the sun doing music is always a good time. Dancing out side under the stars is even nicer. Seeing the venue makes it look like they know what they are doing when it comes to partying. It looks large and farm like. I can’t wait to explore. A few friends are coming with me. Nothing like a party on wheels. Now I may be a little older but I do like a party. So give um hell guys. We can’t wait to start the festivity’s.

Going South

Thank You

June 11, 2014

I had a great time at my birthday concert. I saw more people that I’ve seen in years. I guess it’s true, life runs in a circle. It’s been great seeing people from so long ago.

I’d like to thank Yvette Dostanti for wonderful pictures she took last time we we’re at Fitzgreald’s, and the pictures we used for the article in the Sun Times. Also the article it self was very nicely done by Selena Fragassi.

Women In Blues @ Reggie’s June 13th in the large room. I’ll be with some of the fine women in blues and new face coming out.

The band has another show for  2014 Artist of the wall Festival – Saturday June 14th 3:30 to 4:30 @ Pratt boulevard Park. Located on Pratt Ave.   6800 North 1 block east of Sheridan. At the Windform Sculpture.
